Presidential Primary Season - You're Kidding

I am 73 years old, almost 74.  At no time in my life have I seen such a bunch of radical politicians vying for the Republican Presidential nomination.  The extremes have taken over the once proud Republican party.  Moderation is no where to be seen.  Anger is everywhere. Respected G.O.P. moderates are in hiding for fear of being clobbered by the angry mobs of the mindless.

And above all these so-called conservatives seem to think that our "beloved" U.S. Constitution is their roadmap.  Well, someone of these crackpots should become the least bit informed of this historic document that changed the western world.  The newly ugly word "compromise" is stamped all over our Constitution.  Without compromise there would be no United States as we know it.  The Articles of Confederation were all about local control and it nearly destroyed our new nation.  Compromise was the game changer in saving our new nation.  Think of all the compromises they had to deal with: counting slaves (3/5 compromise), representation by state or by population; two houses of Congress, the Senate (representation by state) and the House (representation by population), etc.

The ultimate winner after all the smoke clears and "patriots" win, is a nation ruled by corporate interests and the wealthy.  Everyone else looses.  Why can't the masses see through this smoke and mirrors strategy?  Maybe, as an old economics professor once said, "remember, the masses are asses".

Where is the enlightenment that we all have sought for so long in these United States?  It doesn't exist today.  Gone are informed citizens who digested the news of the day in depth not in sound bites.  When the masses get there news from those who only want to control thought, doom isn't far away.  Fear and anger of dissenting, questioning groups and individuals is the knee jerk response to anyone who doesn't agree.  We don't condone or take the time to dig deeper and look for meaning in the events of the day, and not jump to simplistic solutions, solutions that often have far reaching negative impact.

Hope remains, hope that this republic will awaken and see the supidity that prevails in the current political climate.
